Waseda University Masters and PhD Scholarships for International Students
Waseda University was founded in 1882 by Shigenobu Okuma who advocated the "harmony of western and eastern civilization". Today, a century after its foundation, Waseda University is promoting university reform under the three concepts, "Asia-Pacific", "media network", and "institutionalization of lifelong learning" for the realization of a "global university*", which is also the university`s second founding principle.
The PhD Program
The Ph.D. Program in International Studies was established in academic year 2000 with the goal of creating a leading academic research center focused on regional studies, international relations, international society, and management in the Asia-Pacific region. The Ph.D. Program aims to produce graduates who will be active as leading researchers or highly-specialized professionals on the international scene.
In a wide variety of ways, the Ph.D. Program in International Studies represents a diverse and open graduate school environment. We welcome all inquiries from those who are interested in joining this unique learning experience
The MA Program
The MA Program in International Relations has three specializations. Students focus on one area of specialization, but at the same time can take courses in all three areas. By using a broad-based, multiperspective approach to understanding and analyzing the momentous changes taking place in the Asia-Pacific region, graduates of the Program will be wellprepared to take on the region`s challenges and opportunities in a wide range of professional capacities.
The aim of the MA Program of the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies is to develop professionals who will play an active role in the international society that includes the Asia-Pacific region. Therefore, while we seek new graduates who have awareness for the issues concerning the future of the region, we also welcome applications by candidates with working experience aiming to achieve a higher level of activity in international society.
